Beijing (China)/ China's top political advisory body concluded its annual session on Wednesday with a call in its work to pool wisdom and strength to ensure a strong start to the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030).

The closing meeting of the fourth session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) was held at the Great Hall of the people in Beijing.

Wang Huning, chairman of the 14th CPPCC National Committee and also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, delivered a speech at the meeting.

"The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee attaches great importance to this meeting. Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, and other Party and state leaders attended our opening and closing meetings, visited members, participated in joint panel discussions, and discussed the state affairs with them," Wang said.

During the session, all the CPPCC National Committee members discussed the government work report, the draft outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan and other reports, and reviewed the work report of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, the report on how the proposals from political advisors have been handled since the previous annual session and other documents, achieving fruitful results, he said.

"In 2026, a year marking the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan, the Communist Party of China is leading hundreds of millions of people to march forward with full confidence on the new journey towards Chinese modernization. Based on its own nature, positioning, responsibilities and mission, the CPPCC should identify its starting, joint and focal points for serving the overall development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period. We should give full play to the role of the CPPCC as a specialized consultative body, and unite and lead all political parties, groups and people of all ethnic groups and sectors participating in the CPPCC, so as to widely rally people's support, consensus, wisdom and strength for a good start to the 15th Five-Year Plan," Wang said.

He highlighted the importance of giving better play to the political organization role of the CPPCC.

The CPPCC should perform its duties and carry out its work in accordance with the CPPCC's charter, so as to ensure the cause of the CPPCC always moves forward in the correct political direction, Wang said.

"We should give better play to the role of the CPPCC in making proposals on state affairs. Wherever the central task of the Party and the country is advanced, the CPPCC should pool wisdom and strength there. We should take serving and supporting the implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan as the main task of our duties, and incorporate it into all work of political consultation, democratic oversight, and participation in the deliberation and administration of state affairs. We should focus on major issues in economic and social development, deepen forward-looking research and strategic thinking, and put forward valuable and significant opinions and suggestions," Wang said.

The CPPCC should give better play to its role in rallying people's support and strength, and widely gather strong and positive energy of Chinese people at home and abroad to forge ahead on a new journey and make greater achievements in the new era, he said.

The CPPCC is an integral part of the Chinese system of multiparty cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.
